About the Event

Join Women of the Woods (WoW) for a 3 to 4.5-mile hike to both Bear Rock and Millers Pond State Park on a combination of the the Mattabessett and other trails. Bear Rock is a lovely view point that looks out over Durham and beyond. Millers Pond is a beautiful, large spring fed pond with rock outcrops. The hike will include some steep and rocky ups and downs, but nothing sustained. If it is hot we will hike less far and more slowly. A portion of this hike is described in the Rockfall Foundation's Off the Beaten Path Blog. This hike was originally scheduled on July 10 and was cancelled due to rain.

Please wear hiking boots and bring a pack with plenty of water and a snack/lunch. If you like hiking poles, I highly reccomend them for areas with steep or loose rocks.

Please consider making a donation to Everyone Outside. Suggested donation $5 to $20 per hike. We depend on donations from people like you to make our programs possible. Click here for more information on ways you can donate to Everyone Outside. Your donations keep our programs affordable and provide funding for scholarships for our other nature connection programs including our Girls Outside after-school program. Your donation is greatly appreciated! Women of the Woods is supported, in part, by a grant from REI.

Women of the Woods (WoW) is a program of Everyone Outside and is open to all those who identify as female or gender nonbinary. In addition to walking, we will take the time to admire the beauty around us, learn a bit about the flora or fauna, do some exercises to connect with the natural world (mostly sitting quietly) and enjoy each other's company.

Registration required. Directions will be sent to those that register and registrants will be notified via email if the hike is postponed or cancelled due to weather.
