WoW Hike at Chatfield Hollow - longer

Join Women of the Woods (WoW) for a 3 - 4 mile socially distanced winter hike at Chatfield Hollow State Park in Killingworth.  If it has been cold, we may be treated to some wonderful ice formations along the cliffs and rocky streams. The planned route will be determined by the trail conditions. There will be some rocky sections of trail with a few steep ups and downs. To keep the group small, we are offering this hike on both Sun, Feb 20 and Mon, Feb 21.  The hike on Monday will be a bit more challenging and longer. Space limited to 12 women per hike. Masks are optional for this program since it is all outside.

Please wear sturdy hiking boots (or supportive winter boots) with good tread. Please bring a pack with warm water, an extra warm layer (for our sit spot) and a snack. You may want to bring hiking poles if you like the extra support and stability they provide, especially if the trail is icy in places. Lucy will be in touch if trail conditions require hiking poles and/or traction devices (e.g. Stable-icers, Yack-tracks, micro spikes). I suggest you dress in non-cotton layers so you can remove layers if you get hot and put them back on when we stop or slow down. Cotton is cold when it is wet, so I strongly recommend wool or synthetic clothing in winter to avoid getting chilled.

Women of the Woods is a program of Everyone Outside. In addition to walking, we will take the time to admire the beauty around us, learn a bit about the flora or fauna, do some exercises to connect with the natural world (mostly sitting quietly) and enjoy each other's company. Women of the Woods (WoW) is a program of Everyone Outside and is open to all those who identify as female or gender nonbinary.

Registration required. Directions will be sent to those that register and registrants will be notified via email if the hike is postponed or cancelled due to weather.
