About the Event

Join Women of the Woods for an 4.5 to 5-mile hike on the Mattabesset Trail (AKA New England Trail) and a side trail past Coginchaug cave in Durham. This is a beautiful and fairly new section of trail that has lots of rocky ups and downs, but nothing very sustained. We will visit a cave, and enjoy the many rocky outcrops and a few pretty streams. The section we are hiking replaces what was a long road walk on Pisgah Rd and Old Blue Hills Rd. We will hike from a parking spot on Old Blue Hills Rd past Coginchaug Cave to the parking area at the end of Dead Hill Rd, Durham. We meet at the Dead Hill parking lot and carpool to the start of the hike on Old Blue Hills Rd. There will be a completely different and easier hike from the Dead Hill Parking lot on Wed, 11/15. Click here for more information. You may attend both hikes if would like, assuming there is enough space.

Please wear hiking boots, bring a pack with an extra layer, water, and a snack.

Please consider making a donation to Everyone Outside. Suggested donation $5 to $20 per hike. We depend on donations from people like you to make our programs possible. Click here for more information on ways you can donate to Everyone Outside. Your donations keep our programs affordable and provide funding for scholarships for our other nature connection programs including our Girls Outside after-school program. Your donation is greatly appreciated! Women of the Woods is supported, in part, by a grant from REI.

Women of the Woods (WoW) is a program of Everyone Outside and is open to all those who identify as female or gender nonbinary. In addition to walking, we will take the time to admire the beauty around us, learn a bit about the flora or fauna, do some exercises to connect with the natural world (mostly sitting quietly) and enjoy each other's company.

Registration required. Directions will be sent to those that register and registrants will be notified via email if the hike is postponed or cancelled due to weather.
