About the Event

Join Women of the Woods (WoW) for a ~3 mile winter hike at Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middletown/Middlefield. This is a good place to hike even if many trails are snowy or icy. If it has been cold, we may be treated to some wonderful ice formations at the big and/or little falls. There will be a few ups and downs, but over half the hike will be on wide trails or old dirt roads.

Please wear sturdy hiking boots (or supportive winter boots) with good tread. Please bring a pack with water, an extra warm layer (for our sit spot) and a snack. You may want to bring hiking poles if you like the extra support and stability they provide, especially if the trail is snow covered in places. Lucy will be in touch if trail conditions require hiking poles and/or traction devices (e.g. Stable-icers, Yack-tracks, micro spikes) or if there is enough snow to consider using snowshoes. I suggest you dress in non-cotton layers so you can remove layers if you get hot and put them back on when we stop or slow down. Cotton is cold when it is wet, so it I strongly recommend wool or synthetic clothing in winter to avoid getting chilled.

Please consider making a donation to Everyone Outside. Suggested donation $5 to $20 per hike. We depend on donations from people like you to make our programs possible. Click here for more information on ways you can donate to Everyone Outside. Your donations keep our programs affordable and provide funding for scholarships for our other nature connection programs. Your donation is greatly appreciated! Women of the Woods is supported, in part, by a grant from REI.

Women of the Woods (WoW) is a program of Everyone Outside and is open to all those who identify as female or gender nonbinary. In addition to walking, we will take the time to admire the beauty around us, learn a bit about the flora or fauna, do some exercises to connect with the natural world (mostly sitting quietly) and enjoy each other's company.

Registration required. Directions will be sent to those that register and registrants will be notified via email if the hike is postponed or cancelled due to weather.
