About the Event

Due to the snow on Sunday, snowshoes will be needed for this hike.

Join Women of the Woods (WoW) for a 3 to 4 hour socially distanced winter snowshoe hike at Chatfield Hollow State Park in KIllingworth. This is a good place to hike even if many trails are snowy or icy. If it has been cold, we may be treated to some wonderful ice formations along the cliffs and rocky streams. The planned route will be determined by the trail conditions depending whether there is ice or snow. There will be some ups and downs, if trail conditions permit, but ~1/3 of the hike will be on wide trails or old dirt roads. To keep the group small, we are offering this hike on both Sun, Feb 7 at 1 PM and Mon, Feb 8 at 1 PM. This hike on Feb 8 will be shorter and less strenous than the hike on Feb 7. Space limited to 10 women per hike. Masks are required for this program. Bad weather date: Wed, Feb 10 at 1 PM

Please wear sturdy hiking boots (or supportive winter boots) with good tread. Please bring a pack with warm water, an extra warm layer (for our sit spot) and a snack. You will likely want hiking poles and/or traction devices (e.g. Stable-icers, Yack-tracks, micro spikes) or if there is enough snow for snowshoes. I strongly suggest you dress in non-cotton layers so you can remove layers if you get hot and put them back on when we stop or slow down. Cotton is cold when it is wet, so it is important to wear wool or synthetic clothing in winter to avoid getting chilled.

Women of the Woods is a program of Everyone Outside. In addition to walking, we will take the time to admire the beauty around us, learn a bit about the flora or fauna, do some exercises to connect with the natural world (mostly sitting quietly) and enjoy each other's company. This program is part of our Women of the Woods (WoW) programing and is meant for women or female identifying people only, please.

If you have been to program or two, please consider making a donation to Everyone Outside. Suggested donation $5 to $20 per hike. We depend on donations from people like you to make our programs possible. Click here for more information on ways you can donate to Everyone Outside. Our WoW hikes, our children’s programs and other Everyone Outside activities either have a sliding scale fee structure or are free (with a request for a donation from those who are able). We depend on our supporters to make our programs acessable, regardless of financial need. Your donation is greatly appreciated!

Women of the Woods is supported, in part, by a grant from the Community Foundation of Middlesex County's Sari Rosenbaum Fund for Women and Girls.

Registration required. Directions will be sent to those that register and registrants will be notified via email if the hike is postponed or cancelled due to weather.
