Everyone Outside After-School Mentor Job Description
Everyone Outside is looking for staff to co-lead our spring 2024 children’s nature-connection programs in Middletown, Middlefield & Portland. We are looking for enthusiastic, caring, and nature-loving individuals who are comfortable co-leading programs with school-aged children in an outdoor setting (forest, fields, trails etc.) from March - May.
We are looking for individuals who:

are 17+.
-
love being out in nature and like sharing this passion with others, especially children.

have previous experience working with school-aged children.

have the skills necessary to ensure that children exhibit safe behavior on and off trails.

have great communication skills.

have a basic understanding of CT ecosystems.
Compensation: $16-18/hr. depending on experience/qualifications, level of responsibility
Available positions:
-
Program co-leader for 21-C after-school programs: co-mentor for weekly after-school nature workshops at Snow School (Mondays) &/or Spencer School (Fridays) and in Middletown. Staff needed from approx. 3:45 PM-5:30 PM, mid April thru mid May

Program co-leader for Girls Outside! after-school program: co-mentor for weekly Tuesday after-school programs for girls in grades 1-4 at Wadsworth Mansion Park/Snow School in Middletown. Staff needed from approx. 3:30-6:15 PM, April 16–May 21

Program co-leader for Nature Explorers after-school program: co-mentor for weekly Thursday after-school programs for students in grades K-2 at Macdonough School in Middletown. Staff needed from approx. 3:45 - 5:15 PM, Mid-April through Mid-May.
Schedule preference can be indicated in the online application form. Preference given to applicants who can work the most number of program dates.
After-school Programs Mentor: 21-C Program for Middletown Public Schools
Mentors are responsible for leading workshops and games for groups of elementary age school children as part of the school’s 21st Century After-School Program. Workshop curriculum is determined by Everyone Outside leadership and given in advance to the mentors. Mentors are expected to work together with the Everyone Outside Program Coordinator to learn the workshop material and help create ways to present this material to the children in a fun and engaging manner. Training provided!
After-school Programs Mentor: Girls Outside and Nature Explorers
Mentors work in collaboration with the co-leaders to support the overall vision, and safety of their group of 8-10 children. They help plan the daily activities and assist their co-mentor in their implementation. Mentors will guide and foster play that allows kids to connect with the natural world and develop strong connections with their environment, community, and themselves. As mentors we aim to spark curiosity, confidence, and perseverance! Training provided!
