How to get to great outdoor spaces:
Mica Ledges Preserve in Durham - Directions to the Cream Pot Rd parking area for Mica Ledges Preserve:
This parking area for Mica Ledges is located at the very south end of Cream Pot Rd in Durham (For GPS use: 120 Cream Pot Rd). Go to the south end of Main St in Durham. Veer right to stay on Rt. 17. Then almost immediately veer left onto Rt. 77. Go 0.9 miles south on Rt. 77. Turn left onto Dionigi Dr. Take Dionigi drive 0.1 mile to a T-intersection. Turn right onto Cream Pot Rd. Drive ~0.4 miles on Cream Pot Rd until the paved road ends, continue south a short ways on a gravel road; park on the left.
Palmer Taylor Preserve, Portland, CT - Directions: The parking area for this hike is at 258 Middle Haddam Road, Portland. From the center of Portland, take Rt-66 east for 3.1 miles to a stoplight. At the light, turn left on Middle Haddam Rd. Go 1.2 miles and turn left into the parking area. Park in the field next to the big red barn.
Timberland Preserve, Guilford, CT - Directions to parking on Thistle Rock Dr: One of the Timberland Preserve entrances is on Maupas Rd, just opposite Thistle Rock Dr. If you look at the map (click here), you can see it is just north of Guilford Lakes School. For GPS use 15 Thistle Rock Dr, Guilford.
Directions to Upper Lake Parking Area: This is the small parking area at the north end of Lakeside Drive near the outflow of Upper Lake in Guilford. If you are using a GPS the small parking area is located at approximately 200 Lakeside Dr. If you drive over the outflow of upper lake, you have gone too far.
Chatfield Hollow, Killingworth, CT - Directions: The address for the park is 381 Rt 80, Killingworth, CT . Chatfield Hollow is on Rt 80 in Killingworth about 3 miles east of the traffic circle at Rt. 80 and Rt 79 in Madison and 1.3 miles west of the traffic circle in Killingworth at Rt 80 and Rt 81. In winter, there is a barrier preventing driving beyond the parking areas close to Rt 80.
Braemore Preserve, Guilford, CT - Directions: For GPS: 5000 Durham Rd (CT-77), Guilford
From the north: Take Rt. 17 to central Durham. Go south on Rt. 17 and veer left onto Rt. 77. From the intersection of Rt. 17 & Rt. 77, go south on Rt. 77 for slightly more than 3 miles. The parking area for the Baemore Preserve will be on the left. It is an open area with an information sign. Directly opposite the parking area is a red barn and a sign for Bluff Head Farm.
From the south: From the intersection of Rt. 80 and Rt 77 in Guilford, go north on Rt 77 for slightly more than 5 miles. (You will pass the parking area fro Bluff Head on your left.)The parking area for the Baemore Preserve will be on the right. It is an open area with an information sign. Directly opposite the parking area is a red barn and a sign for Bluff Head Farm.
Guida Farm Preserve, Middletown, CT -Directions: From Route 17 south (toward Durham), take the first left after Dooley Pond onto Round Hill Road. Continue straight for 0.5 miles to a stop sign at the intersection of Coleman and Round Hill Roads. Turn right (south) into the parking area.
Parking: There is parking for several cars at the property entrance.
